Winter is here, and with it so is an extreme winter storm. This past weekend a majority of the East Coast was hit with a very powerful nor’easter…with reports warning of possible power outages. As the risk of losing power is becoming more and more likely, students on the East Coast share how the storm is currently impacting them.
“It didn’t seem like it would intensify this morning, and now this is probably the most snow I’ve seen in the last 2 years,” says Caroline Bennett (2029). Based in Kentucky, Bennette has seen consistent snowfall from Saturday, January 24 l to Monday, January 26, amounting to around 5.5 inches.

Meanwhile in Connecticut, Hana Aboian (2028) is experiencing some serious temperature drops.
“It’s been mostly 0-10 degrees Fahrenheit here, with the occasional drop into the negatives.” Even so, Aboian says that across her state there has been minimal power loss.

Further south, New Jersey seems to have received a manageable amount of snow.
“There’s about 10-11 inches of snow, which is inconvenient, but otherwise it’s nice,” says Grace Zheng, (2029) a resident of the area. “The lowest temperature of the week was probably around 5 degrees Fahrenheit, and the highest has been 30 ish.” Along with milder temps, Zheng reports that she hasn’t lost power.

Overall, it seems as though OHSers in the Eastern part of the U.S. were minimally affected by this winter storm in terms of outages which is the main concern for students who study primarily online.
Besides needing to help salt driveways and occasional delays in after-school activities, life goes on business as usual for most of SOHS. However, next weekend will be another opportunity for the weather to strike as another winter storm looms over us.
